Letter to Kris
The book Monique and the Mango Rains, by Kris Holloway wouldn’t be something that I would normally read. Being more of a romance reader, I opened up my options and realized how much this book has impacted my life. When beginning this book, I kept my options open to anything and as I
turned the pages and got more and more into the book I realized how fortunate I was. To read about the conditions that the people in Mali go through breaks my heart. It has really taught me that I should be thankful for what I have. Reading this book has also made me open up my options and considers possibly joining the Peace Corps. Just the thought of helping people such as the people in the village of Nampossela would be so rewarding to me. An important part of this book that has really interested me is the births that take place in the birthing house. Being a nursing major, I would like to work in the neo-natal unit at the hospital assisting in the births and taking care of the babies when they are born. To hear the births that people go through in the birthing house and how Kris Holloway helps and assists Monique in the birthing process really interested me, even though in some cases this wasn’t always the best experience. I really feel that for all these reasons, I am so happy I read this book. It not only made me realize how fortunate I am, but how people in the world have nothing and are still happy as ever.
